5 Fashion Careers I Tried (My Big dream)

Welcome to my creative corner. Hi, I am Favour and this is the beginning of my fashion dream.

In life, you have to start somewhere, so I thought as an intro blog post I start somewhere.

My fashion story has been one of exploring and learning so here goes nothing.

I am a fashion enthusiast I think or at least that's what google describes. Here is a definition of what that means for my audience who don’t know. By definition, a fashion enthusiast is someone who works in a/multiple fashion domains within the industry.

To keep it short and simple here are 5 fashion domains I have worked in and still work in.

· Fashion illustration: This was my first fashion expression discovery through illustrations and art. I discovered this in 2013. A group of illustrators all friends in high school and together we self-taught ourselves how to illustrate. Since 2013 my illustration style has changed, improved and now I am a digital fashion illustrator. This is an area I have loved exploring and the saying practice makes perfect is best applied here.

· Fashion styling: This was my second fashion expression discovery and one of the hardest. In my opinion, no two individuals have the same style and this is one of the most undervalued parts of the industry in society. Styling enhances one's features and allows your personality to shine through. Though I enjoyed the various opportunity, it is an aspect that I think I need to first learn the virtue of patience before I give it another go.

· Fashion design: This was my third fashion expression discovery, still the hardest aspect for me. I first tried to self-teaching. Then I decided to attend fashion classes in 2018, honestly best decision so far. Now some people are self-taught and it has worked for them. Fashion design is an aspect I love; that is when my sewing machine decides to cooperate. It is an aspect I will keep improving and maybe one day I will release a handmade product or collection. My only tip is to try till you find your best method and stick to it.

· Fashion modelling: This was my fourth fashion expression discovery, this discovery was by accident. Last-minute I was asked to participate in the runway for a designer, I love clothes so I couldn’t say no. I ended up enjoying the runway. I have now worked with that brand on various occasions both runway and commercially. To be honest, I think my modelling career could have been bigger but I can’t do everything can I? I think through being a brand ambassador and influencing I still have a chance at commercial modelling again

· Event Planning: This was my fifth fashion expression discovery, I loved this one in particular. My first experience was being part of a pageant in 2013 backend help. Most recently In 2019, I planned with an amazing team my first ever fashion show and honestly mind-blowing but stressful. It is still an achievement I am proud of.

I look forward to attending more events and most especially planning more event. I love the fact that the industry has so many ways that you can be a part of fashion as a fashion lover. To be able to keep exploring and the intersection of all the different aspects as a creative is honestly exciting.
